Akita Northern Happinets announced the signing of Reina Iwaya to a 3-year contract. Iwaya will play as a point guard and bring new energy to the team. Iwaya played for Waseda University and won several awards, including the 3rd place in the 2020 Winter Cup, the championship in the 2024-25 season of the Kanto University Basketball League 2nd Division, and the 3-point shooting title. He also won the MVP award in the 2025 Kanto University Basketball League 1st Division and the Best Player award in the 2025 Japan University Basketball Championship. Iwaya was selected for the 3x3 U23 Japan national team in 2024 and 2025. Iwaya said, "I felt the power of the fans' support when I played on the professional stage. I will do my best to bring more victories to the team and make the fans proud."
